On Wed. Oct 3, ASPIRE members joined other campus leaders in presenting a panel discussion to freshmen enrolled in a section of the Freshman Year Student Expeience. The group focused on Things They Wish They Had Known as Freshmen. While the conversation was lively, the highlight of the interaction was adjourning for lunch at the Indian Sizzler on Main Street!

Thanks to ASPIRE leaders and members who came out during the holiday weekend to welcome freshmen and support the Cultural Programming Board’s block party. It was a hot but festive day, and as always ASPIRE Represented!!! HUGE thanks to Amber, Arpita, Eleenie, Sai, Kevin, Lorene and Anh…they are the first to host an event using the new ASPIRE banner!!
Several students took information and expressed an interest in learning more about ASPIRE.
Monday September 17th at 7pm in Sharp Lab 100: We hope to see many new and familiar faces at the Welcome to Campus meeting. Join ASPIRE leaders Katie, Elleenie, Morgan, Sai, Kevin and Arpita in starting a new and exciting ASPIRE year!!!
We will also announce the Fall 2012 Hearst Scholarship recipients during the Welcome to Campus Meeting. This prestigious $6,000 scholarship award is made to senior teacher education majors with the most competitive grade point averages who have been active in ASPIRE during their entire undergrad careers at UD.

Join ASPIRE director, Dr. Melva Ware, for Cookies and Conversation. Get to know other ASPIRE members and former leaders in a relaxed atmosphere. Learn about scholarship and professional networking opportunities. Make an appointment to stop by the ASPIRE office for a private chat, specifically if you have campus adjustment or financial aid concerns.

Former ASPIRE president, Taria Pritchett, was honored on March 27th at a ceremony held in Arlington, VA by the Mid-Eastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel as a Trio Achiever of the Year. Taria was nominated for the award by the UD SSSP program, and Cheryl Davis-Robinson beamed as Taria accepted the award and made very moving remarks about her plans to teach and continue to give back to the community so that other deserving students can follow her pathway to college and success.

UD Education job fairs are fast approaching and it’s time to register!
Teach in Delaware Day (attended by Delaware public and charter schools) will be held on Tuesday, 4/17/12, from 10am to 3pm. Project Search, held the following day (Wednesday, 4/18/12) from 8am to 5pm, will host Delaware public and charter schools as well as several school districts from the greater Mid-Atlantic region. Both events will be held at the Bob Carpenter Sports/Convocation Center. Come meet the recruiters to learn about Fall 2012 opportunities!
