Summer Leadership Opportunities

ASPIRE Summer Leadership Opportunities are described below.  Selected leaders will receive stipends.  Active ASPIRE members are encouraged to apply.

Position Descriptions Undergraduate Teacher Education Program Leaders

Summer 2010:  TO APPLY Submit application letter to mware@udel.edu by April 29, 2010.  Please provide at least one reference (email address for the reference) and address each of the qualifications listed for the position/s for which you want consideration.

 Early Literacy Program Leader (One Position)

 Support the work of six (6) high school interns assigned to Head Start and the UD Early Learning Center.  Visit sites, model interactions with pre-school students, coordinate time reporting and feedback regarding the interns’ placements, communicate with site leaders, coaches, and teachers.  Develop and facilitate Friday campus interactions that focus on preparation for the Early Childhood and Elementary Education degree programs.

  • Upper Division Early Childhood or Elementary Education Major
  • Solid Academic Record (3.0 in Major)
  • Good Communications Skills
  • Transportation Required

Middle School Literacy Leader (Three Positions)

 Plan, develop and lead digital story telling workshops or sessions that engage 7th and 8th grade students in telling their own life and community stories.  Support the participation of two (2) high school interns.  Work under the general supervision of a middle school English teacher and the site supervisor. Support development of Friday campus interactions for interns by meeting with the Campus Orientation leader to communicate ideas.

  • University of Delaware Service Learning Scholar/Community-Based Research Fellow
  • Solid Academic Record (3.0 in Major)
  • Experience Planning and Facilitating Instructional Activities
  • Good Communications and Teamwork Skills/Spanish Speaking

 Middle School Numeracy Leader (Three Positions)

 Plan, develop and facilitate activities that engage 7th and 8th grade students in developing and strengthening mathematics problem-solving skill, teamwork and leadership skills.  Support the participation of two (2) high school interns.  Work under the general supervision of a middle school mathematics teacher and the site supervisor.  Support development of Friday campus interactions for interns by meeting with the Campus Orientation leader to communicate ideas.

  • Math Education, Leadership, Business or Closely Related Major
  • University of Delaware Community-Based Research Fellow
  • Solid Academic Record (3.0 in Mathematics Courses)
  • Experience Planning and Facilitating Instructional Activities
  • Good Communications and Teamwork Skills/Spanish Speaking

  Middle School Enrichment and Campus Orientation Leader (One Position)

 Support the work of two (2) high school interns assigned to the 21st Century Learning Center at Shue-Medill Middle School.  Visit the site, coordinate time reporting and feedback regarding the interns’ placement.  Develop and facilitate Friday campus interactions for interns serving in middle school placements, focus on preparation for Secondary Education degree programs at the University of Delaware.  Convene planning meeting to solicit ideas from other leaders.

 Southern Delaware Program Leader (One Position)

Support the work of five (5) high school interns who will work with master teachers in the Cape Henlopen summer camp program.  Support the faculty leader for the SO Delaware Aspiring Teacher Program in planning for all activities, including training and orientation, site reporting and feedback, as well as the Friday campus interactions.  Work with the Campus Orientation Leader to plan a UD campus Friday for the high school interns.  This position is located in Southern Delaware.

  • Upper Division Elementary or Secondary Teacher Education Major
  • Solid Academic Record (3.0 in Major)
  • Experience Planning and Facilitating Instructional Activities
  • Good Communications and Teamwork Skills
  • Transportation Required

 Communications and Technology Assistant (One Position)

Assist site leader at Bayard School to arrange for materials and technology needs of the literacy and numeracy student programs.  Work with trainers for each component.  Develop checklist of equipment and materials needed.  Work with ASPIRE office staff, Bayard teachers and program supervisors to ensure that all equipment and materials are available and in appropriate working order.

  • University of Delaware Undergraduate with a Major in Communications, Instructional Technology, or Closely Related Field
  • Solid Academic Record (3.0 in Major)
  • Experience Working within a School Building Environment
  • Good Communications and Teamwork Skills
