Summer Program Leaders

Summer 2011:  Letters of Application Submitted to mware@udel.edu by May 15.  Please provide at least one reference (email address for the reference) and address each of the qualifications listed for the position/s for which you want consideration.

Early Literacy Program Leader (One Position)

The time commitment for this position is approximately 20 hours (June 16-30)

The stipend is $300.00 + $100.00 for gas allowance.

Support the work of high school interns assigned to Head Start and the UD Early Learning Center.  Visit sites, model interactions with pre-school students, coordinate time reporting and feedback regarding the interns’ placements, communicate with site leaders, coaches, and teachers.  Provide information on preparation for the Early Childhood and Elementary Education degree programs.

  • Upper Division Early Childhood or Elementary Education Major
  • Solid Academic Record (3.0 in Major)
  • Good Communications Skills
  • Transportation Required

 

College Awareness and Reading Enrichment Leader

 Summer Service Learning Research Fellows (Four Positions)

The time commitment for each position is approximately 75 hours.  The stipend is $1,100.00.

Work with Pre-college Students (June 20-June 30 7:15 a.m.-11:00 a.m.)(4 hours follow up in July TBD)

Work within a school-based team to support the design and delivery of college awareness and reading enrichment activities. Plan, develop and lead book club workshops or sessions that engage rising 8/9 grade students in mastering relevant  vocabulary, thinking critically, and discussing teacher- assigned and student-selected books.  Support planning for and delivery of college awareness workshops.  Work under the general supervision of summer teachers and site supervisors.

 Undergraduate leaders are also expected to serve as role models and mentors for high school interns who support activities at the selected service site.

  • English Education, Communications or Closely Related Major
  • University of Delaware Service Learning Scholar/Community-Based Research Fellow
  • Solid Academic Record (3.0 in Major)
  • Experience Planning and Facilitating Instructional Activities
  • Good Communications and Teamwork Skills/Spanish Speaking

Conduct Undergraduate Research (June 13-17 Guided Reading and Planning 10:00a.m.-noon–flexible) (Participation in August Research Symposium)
