The Crew at the Beach

Faith Roach, a 2011 Elementary Education graduate and Bruce Aldred, Biology ’12, formed a very powerful partnership to support middle school students who are headed to Cape Henlopen high school and slated for participation in the AVID program.  Faith, Bruce, and ASPIRE high school intern, Aliyah Reese, spent six days with the students, in late June.  Their work was consistent with activities at the other summer enrichment program sites. They focused on SAT vocabulary development, college planning, and engaged reading and discussion.  The middle school students gave the program high marks, and when asked what they would change to improve it.  The response in union was MAKE IT LONGER!!!

The site leader for the work in Cape Henlopen was Chanel Gaither, who leads Minorities Achieving Collegiate Success.  Ms. Gaither developed much of the curriculum that focused on introducing students to the attitudes and work habits of successful students.
