ASPIRE members will welcome high school seniors to campus to participate in the lecture and discussion featuring Michael Eric Dyson, on September 29 at 7:00pm in the Trabant Center. The high school seniors participated in the Summer 2010 Aspiring Teacher Internship program, and they are interested in pursuing teacher education degrees at UD.
The school year follow up for the Aspiring Teacher Interns has been expanded to include participation with the ASPIRE community in selected cultural and pre-professional activities.
LATINO HERITAGE MONTH is September 15-October 15 every year and the University of Delaware has several events to expose students to the culture, language, history, and societal issues/struggles of Latino/a people.
WHY FUTURE TEACHERS SHOULD BE INTERESTED IN THESE EVENTS:
The bureau projects that the Hispanic school-age population will increase by 166% by 2050 (to 28 million from 11 million in 2006), while the non-Hispanic school-age population will grow by just 4% (to 45 million from 43 million) over this same period. In 2050, there will be more school-age Hispanic children than school-age non-Hispanic white children.
The chances of you having students or working with families that are Latino/a are high and ASPIRE’s mission is:
To prepare outstanding educators who are well-rounded, critical thinkers committed to the academic success of ALL students. PLEASE ATTEND

The attendance has grown steadily from the 10 or so students who attended in 2008, to 30 or so students who attended in 2009 to more than 80 students who crowded into Sharp Lab Room 123 for the 2010 opening meeting.
